We typically have quiet weekends with the usual errands and laundry that has piled up over the course of a week. To tell the truth, I kind of like it that way. When we do have busy times on the weekends, it often feels like I need a do-over to catch up. That's why I like working from home on Mondays :)
This weekend was not all that typical. On Friday night, we went to a fall BBQ that is held annually by the younger members (under 35) of ASCE. We've gone the past two years now and it's a nice family event. They cook up some yummy food, it's free and they provide pumpkins for carving. Last year we (mostly the moms and dads) gutted the pumpkins and then helped the kids carve in pretty much pitch black since it was up in the canyon. This year it was at Sugarhouse Park so better lighting...and two of the guys who put this thing on spent the evening before gutting the pumpkins for us! So all we had to do was carve. Wonderful, genius, love it and I thanked them for their consideration, and my clean hands! They added a fun new wrinkle this year, a contest for the best carved pumpkin. The kids each made one and Quinn's won a prize, $20 gift card to Target. I should say that James rightly won that gift card since he carved it but Quinn told him what to do with the face so it was a joint effort. Of course Quinn spent the $ though :)
Keely with her pumpkin on our front porch. In the background is ever curious Suka, our neighbor's dog who we are babysitting until tomorrow.

True to form, Quinn would not pose with his pumpkin but here's a picture of the winning carve...nothing special but I guess they liked the funny look!

As you can tell from how Keely is dressed, the weather this weekend was gorgeous - really warm for Fall. Quinn had his last soccer game and we didn't freeze our tushes off. Yesterday, we spent the day and evening at a friends' house with their family and two others from the kids' school. We watched football, everyone pitched in some food so we shared a great meal, drank beer and some other adult beverages, and had a lot of laughs. The kids played so well and had a lot of fun too. We have an open invite to their house for Sunday NFL football (as long as we cheer for the Steelers, which is not a problem for us) and I think we may have to take up that offer again soon. It's so nice to have a fun day with friends where the parents and kids can all have fun together!
